USAfrica Trade and Business Network Appoints Dr. Femi Salami to Advisory Board

New York, NY — August 1, 2026 — The USAfrica Trade and Business Network today announced the appointment of Dr. Femi Salami, MIMM, MAusIMM, to its Board of Advisors as Mining and Critical Minerals Advisor. The appointment, ratified by the board and effective immediately, carries a one-year term.

Dr. Salami brings deep technical expertise in mining engineering, critical minerals development, and energy sustainability to the Network's mission of strengthening U.S.-Africa commercial ties. A first-class honors graduate of the Federal University of Technology Akure, Nigeria, he earned his Ph.D. in Mining Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the United States and holds mining engineering licenses in the United Kingdom and Nigeria.

With more than 70 awards for scholarly excellence, Dr. Salami's research focuses on climate-smart mining, energy sustainability, and critical mineral supply chains—fields central to Africa's industrial future and the diversification of global mineral sourcing. He is a member of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (USA), the International Society of Rock Mechanics, and the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

"Dr. Salami's perspective will be invaluable as we advance systems that support responsible resource development and mutually beneficial trade between the United States and Africa," said Executive Director Gbenga Omotayo and Advisory Chair Ambassador Dr. Karen L. Booker in a joint statement. "His appointment reflects our commitment to engaging top-tier expertise that understands both the technical and geopolitical dimensions of critical minerals."

In his advisory capacity, Dr. Salami will provide strategic guidance on mining policy, help shape the Network's programming, and support initiatives that align African mineral wealth with transparent, sustainable investment frameworks.
